Paul Starner, platoon sergeant for Scout-Sniper Platoon, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, holds the new 3 x 12 variable-power Schmidt & Bender M-854155 DS Scout Sniper Day Scope, mounted on the M-40A3 sniper rifle, at Camp Mercury, Iraq March 9. He is credited with the first combat kill with the new scope, and his platoon has killed seven insurgents with it since the battalion arrived in the Fallujah area in January.
