MSGT McDaniel II, Special Tactics Pararescue Flight Superintendent, and SSGT Ridout, Special Tactics Pararescueman, were with the 320th STS at Kadena Air Base, Japan.  The two airmen were onboard a US Army MH-47 Chinook along with eight soldiers from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The helicopter crashed in the Bohol Sea near the island of Apo on February 22, 2002 while en route from Basilan Island to Mactan, in the Philippines. The helicopter and crew was supporting US efforts to train and advise the Armed Forces of the Philippines in their efforts against global terrorism.
