visualintel > WASHINGTON --  Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry, The Old Guard, carry Medal of Honor recipient, CW4 (Ret) Michael J. Novosel Sr. at Arlington National Cemetary in Washington D.C. Thursday (13 Apr 2006) Novosel was laid to rest after a long battle with cancer, he was 83 years old.  A former pilot with the U.S. Army's Golden Knights Parachute Team, Novosel earned the Medal of Honor for actions in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. Six other Medal of Honor recipients attended the service along with Army Vice-Chief of Staff Gen. Richard Cody, who offered the eulogy and presented an American flag to Novasel's son, Michael J. Novosel Jr.

visualintel > Pfc. Robert Hordern was among roughly 1,200 Soldiers from the 3rd  Infantry Regiment "Old Guard" decorating graves at Arlington National Cemetery for Memorial Day. The annual "Flags In" ceremony this year included more than 100 service members from the Marine Corps, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard. Shortly after unveiling her late husband’s new headstone, Birgit Smith visits his grave April 5, 2005, at Arlington National Cemetery, Va. Smith’s husband, Sgt. 1st Class Paul Ray Smith, was mortally wounded saving his platoon in Operation Iraqi Freedom and is the first Soldier to receive the Medal of Honor in the conflict.
